MEDIA RELEASE December 6, 2011 Contact: Martha Schultz, 518/ 698-3365 or Sara Niccoli, 646/ 229-1091 Response to Today’s Tax Code Agreement New York State took a meaningful step today toward the creation of a more progressive tax system that demonstrates values of justice, compassion and good work. By requiring the wealthiest among us to pay their fair share, the plan will build public infrastructure and create jobs. However, much more needs to be done. Additional revenue-generating measures are necessary to prevent cuts to schools, services and the safety net. Sara Niccoli is Co-Director of the Labor-Religion Coalition of New York State. The Labor-Religion Coalition of New York State, with a statewide staff and nine local coalition affiliates, educates and advocates for economic justice. In addition to partnering with 99 Percent NY, the coalition coordinates the Sweatshop Free Campaign, an Annual 40-hour Fast for Worker Justice and a Fair Trade Project.
