A PRAYER IN THIS TIME OF ECONOMIC CRISIS
For use at gatherings across New York during the 15th Annual 40-Hour FAST, March 1 through March 3, 2010
We pray for our state in this time of economic turmoil. We pray that you inspire us all to understand that a moral economy exists to serve people and the common good, not false idols.
God of mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for those in our community who have lost their jobs, their health insurance, or their homes. We pray that you give them the strength to persevere.
God of mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for employers who have dealt with workers unrighteously, stealing wages and putting profits before people. We are all your children of the one God and we pray that you would transform the hearts of those who bow to greed.
God of mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for our neighbors and our communities. We pray that compassion prevails as actions are taken to create jobs and renew the economy.
God of mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for moral vision and principled action by elected officials, union leaders, business decision-makers and those fasting during the 40 hours of this FAST. May we act as sisters and brothers who champion the needs of the poor and vulnerable.
