People of faith acting on the command to “do justice” and workers organizing for a voice on the job have a long history of partnership in the U.S. In 1980, a time of plant closings and eroding rights of workers, this shared commitment to economic justice led to the creation of a volunteer association called the Labor-Religion Coalition. It was one of the first such associations in the country. In 2010, the LRC celebrated its 30th Anniversary ! While the Coalition believes that all workers have the right to union representation if they so choose, it does not represent or speak for any union. Similarly, the Coalition does not adhere to or promote the religious doctrine of any faith group. The LRC works in partnership with social justice organizations across the state.
