FARMWORKER EXCLUSIONS DEMAND A SOLUTION!

Justice for Farmworkers Now!

Farmworkers pick the fruit and vegetables that all of us eat. They are excluded from basic labor laws like the right to a day of rest, the right to collectively bargain, or the right to overtime pay. This has to change.

The Justice for Farmworker's Campaign is a civil rights movement that needs you.

Join us in a youth action at Farmworker Advocacy Day on May 1, 2002 led by the Youth Arts Group (YAG). YAG is a program within Rural and Migrant Ministry's Youth Empowerment Program.

HOW: Enter our contest to create the best illustration of the theme, Farmworker Exclusions Demand a Solution.

We need to get the media's attention. We want to invite you to help us get their attention through the arts, visual, performing— whatever it takes. Create a theatrical puppet, dance, skit, banner…. The more creative the better! Bring your work up to Albany on May 1 and display it along with hundreds of young people. Then, join us for a scavenger hunt, fiesta and cultural entertainment.

WHEN: Wednesday May 1, 2002

11:00 Registration
11:30-1:30 Contest
2:00-3:00 Scavenger Hunt
2:00-5:00 Fiesta and Cultural Program

WHERE: Albany, N.Y., city park in front of the New York State Capitol steps

We need youth organizations from across the state to join us in creating an action that makes a difference and catches the media's attention. Coverage in the media will pressure Legislators to pass the Omnibus bill to remove the Farmworker labor exclusions. Please join us in this unique, creative, and educational opportunity to experience democracy in action.

Come wearing Justice for Farmworker T-Shirts, Caps etc..that you've made, or come prepared to purchase some, so we can all be identified as one group fighting for Farmworkers!
