COMMUNITY OF FAITH RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF FARMWORKER ADVOCACY DAY
Whereas, farmworkers are men, women and children who share our communities with
us
and ensure our well-being by planting and harvesting our food, and;
Whereas, farmworking is one of the most difficult and dangerous occupations
involving
harsh working and living conditions, and;
Whereas, farmworkers often endure a life isolated by language, prejudice, and
ignorance;
and where their voice is often unheard or ignored, and;
Whereas, members of the congregation, (congregation, faith body, judicatory,
etc).
are people of faith rooted in a commitment to justice and the well-being of
all
members of our society; and therefore have a longstanding concern for the basic
human rights of farmworkers,
Be It Resolved, the members of (congregation, faith body, judicatory,
etc.) stand with
the farmworkers of New York State in their efforts to remove the legislative
exclusions which deny them many basic rights including: a voluntary day of rest,
overtime pay, unemployment insurance and the right to organize.
Be It Further Resolved, that members of the (congregation, faith body,
judicatory, etc)
support and co-sponsor Farmworker Advocacy Day on Thursday, May 2, 2002.
Be It Further Resolved, that members of the (congregation,
faith body, judicatory, etc.)
be urged to join with farmworkers on the 2nd of May 2002 in Albany for Farmworker
Advocacy Day; and
Be It Further Resolved, that the (Secretary) be directed
to convey to the
(congregation, faith body, judicatory, etc.) their stand to the following State
leaders: the Governor, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the Assembly,
and the
Chairs of the Senate and Assembly Labor Committees.
