Fair Trade Project poster series

Anne Kelly, LRC Fair Trade Coordinator (and photographer), has created a series of posters to illustrate basic Fair Trade principles and show how Fair Trade makes a difference. Click on each image above for a larger, printable version of the poster along with the story behind the picture (to be printed on a separate page). In addition to the above images, two of Anne's photos taken in Nicaragua in April 2008 and the Fair Trade magnet image are available in a postcard size format with information about the picture and about fair trade on the back. Call us (518/ 213-6000, ext. 6294) if you would like a seven-card set.

These four photos were taken on a delegation led by Equal Exchange to the
Dominican Republic in April 2008. The group visited CONACADO, a cacao cooperative comprising of 9 bloques (blocks). Delegation members stayed with farmers in Bloque 2, which is the oldest and most experienced bloque.

In its 20 years, CONACADO has grown from 700 members to over 9,500. Prior to CONACADO, Dominican cacao was of inferior quality, destined for the US market and controlled by four families. Through a controlled fermentation process, CONACADO farmers are now producing finest quality cacao for specialty markets. CONACADO now exports 25% of all Dominican cacao. Every year, there is a General Assembly for the entire cooperative (there are other meetings through the year for regional groups) when they decide how Fair Trade premiums will be used. These pictures are from some of those projects.

For a more detailed history, visit the Equal Exchange website or go right to CONACADO's website .

We would love to hear or see how you have used the posters! Click here to send us a message. Photo attachments are welcome.
