Hearts and minds coming together for the benefit of Sullivan County
International Human Rights Day vigil in Monticello includes stories of violations of these rights by Islamic Cultural Center members
The 1948 adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was commemorated on December 11, 2010 in a program of contemplation and celebration organized by the Kairos Project. This year's vigil was hosted by the Monticello Islamic Cultural Center at 33 Cottage Street, Monticello, NY. News Release >
The program included moving personal testimony of human rights violations by members of the mosque, many of whom come from the former Yugoslavia. Labor-Religion Coalition Director Brian O'Shaughnessy spoke about the links between labor rights and human rights and Eric Monroe spoke about the work of the Sullivan County Human Rights Commission.
News and photos of the event appear in the Web magazine Bosniaks.net.
