Viewing of Triangle fire coffins

For 40 hours during the week of the 100th Anniversary of the Triangle fire tragedy, the Labor Religion Coalition invites the people of New York State to fast from solid food, to pray and spend quiet time reflecting on what kind of workplace we want for all who labor within New York's borders... and beyond.

During the FAST, the LRC asks participants to reflect, pray and act for worker health and safety -- and for ending sweatshops, a major focus of the Labor-Religion Coalition since 1997.  The FAST time period of 40 hours links the importance of this number in the Judeo-Christian Scriptures and the 40-hour work week. Prayer services, actions or breaking-the-fast meals will be held by local Labor-Religion Coalitions throughout the state.  Check our listing of events for ways you can participate.

The LRC is part of the national Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition where you will find a listing of over 200 events. We are also participants in the NOT ONE MORE FIRE! -- Finding Solutions to Today's Sweatshops event at Fashion Institute of Technology, Wed. March 23, 5 p.m.

In the Capital District, the traditional breaking-the-fast gathering will follow a special Triangle Fire Centennial Commemoration beginning at 4 PM on Friday, March 25, the actual day in 1911 that the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory burst into flames. The tragedy galvanized a movement for worker justice that continues today.
