LIVING
WAGE CAMPAIGNS

Living wage campaigns led by Labor-Religion affiliates challenge the shameful fact of the working-poor in New York state.

Advocates have won ordinances in six cities and two counties, yet implementation, enforcement and monitoring remain challenging. According to Sam Magavern, volunteer attorney for the Living Wage Commission in Buffalo, NY, "a fully-implemented and fairly implemented and fairly-enforced Living Wage Ordinance is one vital path to revitalizing our city."

For 2009 updates on two campaigns, see "Syracuse and Buffalo living wage campaigns win raises, back pay for workers!" A shorter version appeared in the Sept. 2009 issue of Justicing, the LRC newsletter. Click here to see his September 2007 "Update on the State of the Living Wage in Buffalo" PDF
