SUNY CORTLAND TAKES HISTORIC STANCE
AGAINST SWEATSHOPS
Today SUNY Cortland publicly announced
the university's affiliation with the fair labor monitoring organization the Worker
Rights Consortium (WRC).
After sweatshop legislation was signed
into law last August SUNY Cortland follows up with the strongest stance ever to
be taken by a state public institution against the sale of sweatshop apparel on
university grounds. SUNY Cortland has become the first public college within the
state to affiliate with the WRC, a move that was not possible before legislative
provisions. SUNY Albany and SUNY New Paltz are currently considering affiliation
with the WRC
